چکیده

Kosutic J, Prijic S, Stajevic M, Kalaba M, Ninic S, Mikovic Z, Vujic A, Popović S. Clinical implications of prenatal diagnosis of aorto-left ventricular tunnel on postnatal treatment and final outcome. Turk J Pediatr 2017; 59: 342-344. There are no more than 20 antenatally diagnosed aorto-left ventricular tunnel cases reported in the literature. In most of them the diagnosis was made indirectly and only after multiple fetal scans based on findings such as thick and dilated left ventricle and grossly dilated ascending aorta. We present a patient in whom a direct tunnel visualization and aorto-left ventricular tunnel diagnosis was made at the 30th gestation week after a single fetal scan using the recently introduced `cockade sign`. Clinical implications of antenatal diagnosis on postnatal treatment and outcome are also discussed.

AORTO-LEFT VENTRICULAR TUNNEL. A CASE REPORT WITH AORTIC PRESSURE AND ECHOCARDIOGRAPHIC FINDINGS

A seven-year-old girl with clinical diagnosis of aortic insufficiency underwent echocardiographic and hemodynamic evaluation and referred for surgery with the same diagnosis. However, at surgery, aorto-Ieft ventricular tunnel was found and repaired successfully. Review of echocardiogram and catheterization data revealed interesting findings to differentiate this rare entity from congenital...

Aorto-left ventricular tunnel (ALVT) is a rare congenital anomaly in which an abnormal communication connects the ascending aorta with the left ventricle, that results volume overload on left ventricle. It is clinically undistinguishable from aortic insufficiency. Its prompt and precise diagnosis is crucial since early surgical treatment is definitely indicated. In this report clinical,...

Aorto-ventricular tunnel

Aorto-ventricular tunnel is a congenital, extracardiac channel which connects the ascending aorta above the sinutubular junction to the cavity of the left, or (less commonly) right ventricle. The exact incidence is unknown, estimates ranging from 0.5% of fetal cardiac malformations to less than 0.1% of congenitally malformed hearts in clinico-pathological series. Approximately 130 cases have be...

Aortico-Left Ventricular Tunnel: Report of Two Prenatal Cases and Review of the Literature.

Introduction ▼ Aortico-left ventricular tunnel (ALVT) is a rare congenital heart malformation representing approximately 0.001 % of all congenital cardiac malformations (Okoroma EO et al. J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 1976; 71: 238–44). ALVT was first described as an abnormal communication between the ascending aorta and the left ventricle (Levy MJ et al. Circulation 1963; 27: 841–53). The tunnel b...

Improved surgical outcome after fetal diagnosis of hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

BACKGROUND Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is frequently diagnosed prenatally, but this has not been shown to improve surgical outcome. METHODS AND RESULTS We reviewed patients with HLHS between July 1992 and March 1999 to determine the influence of prenatal diagnosis on preoperative clinical status, outcomes of stage 1 surgery, and parental decisions regarding care. Of 88 patients, 33...
